An Origin alternative for engineers who analyse the same tests every week

Origin is excellent at publication-quality graphs and curve fitting. Where it gets slow is repeat work: importing logger files, rebuilding the same plots for every run, and assembling the same report for every test campaign. That repeat work is what Vizalyze is built around.

Step by step

  1. Open your data as it comes off the rig

MDF/MF4 from vehicle loggers, TDMS from LabVIEW, MATLAB .mat, HDF5, CSV and Excel open directly, with no import scripts. Messy logger CSVs with preambles and unit rows can be cleaned once and saved as a reusable import template.

  2. Plot and compare runs

Drag channels onto a canvas, stack subplots with shared X axes, and overlay two or more runs to see what changed. Data Health flags gaps, dropouts and outliers before you trust a result.

  3. Run the standard analyses

Analysis packs add standards-based functions for electrochemistry (EIS, polarization curves, Tafel), batteries, fuel cells, emissions, efficiency and reliability. They run on any loaded file without scripting.

  4. Build the report once, reuse it on every run

Charts, tables with live formulas, and text go into a report template that exports to PDF or PowerPoint. Next campaign, point the template at new files instead of rebuilding the graphs.

Where Origin is the better choice

If your output is a journal figure that needs fine typographic control, or you rely on Origin's deep nonlinear fitting and its large library of graph types, Origin remains a strong tool and many labs have years of Origin projects. Vizalyze does not import Origin project files.

Where Vizalyze fits better

Engineering test data is mostly repeat work: the same channels, the same KPIs and the same report for every unit tested. Vizalyze records that work as workflows and templates, so the second run takes minutes instead of an afternoon.

It reads automotive and lab formats natively (MDF/MF4, TDMS, CAN/LIN with a DBC) and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Origin is a Windows application, so Mac and Linux users usually need a virtual machine.

Analysis is local: your files are not uploaded. Pricing is published on the pricing page, with a free tier and no sales call needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Origin alternative?

Vizalyze has a free tier with no time limit for plotting, comparing runs and checking data health, and every new account gets a 14-day trial of every feature and format with no credit card.

Does it run on Mac?

Yes. Vizalyze runs natively on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Can I import my Origin projects?

Not directly. Export the worksheets to CSV or Excel from Origin and open those; graphs and fits need to be rebuilt once, then saved as a reusable template.

Can it plot EIS Nyquist and Bode curves?

Yes, and the free online EIS Nyquist plotter on this site shows the idea in your browser: equal-axis Nyquist, Bode and high-frequency resistance read off automatically.
