NI DIAdem license cost and options, explained

NI does not publish DIAdem prices on its own product pages, so most of what you find online is guesswork. This page sets out what NI states publicly about DIAdem editions and license types, what we could and could not verify, and what to consider if DIAdem turns out to be more than you need.

Step by step

  1. Pick the edition

NI's edition page lists three DIAdem editions. Base is aimed at loading, searching, visualizing and reporting standard engineering data. Advanced adds more powerful analysis, video synchronization and scripting for workflow automation. Professional adds domain toolkits such as 3D Math and rotating machinery analysis. NI also sells a LabVIEW+ Suite that includes DIAdem Professional.

  2. Choose subscription or perpetual

NI's page says each edition is offered both ways with the same features. A subscription gives access on an annual basis and you renew to keep using it. A perpetual license keeps working indefinitely, with the first year of software service included and service renewable annually. NI's community post from February 2025 confirms both models are available for its test software.

  3. Choose node-locked or floating

NI describes node-locked licenses as assigned to one user and floating licenses as a shared pool for multiple users. Volume licensing is mentioned for 5 or more seats and goes through NI sales.

  4. Get a quote for your region

NI's DIAdem buy page shows no price and asks you to contact NI. Check NI's current price list, or ask your regional distributor, because prices vary by country, edition, license type and term.

  5. Try before you buy

NI's edition page links to a free trial. We could not find the trial length stated on the pages we read, so confirm it when you start the trial.

What NI states publicly about DIAdem licensing

DIAdem runs on Windows only, and current versions are 64-bit. You can upgrade between editions as your needs grow. Each edition has separate part numbers for subscription and perpetual licenses.

NI notes that subscriptions and software service can be renewed at the end of their terms at then-current prices. In other words, the price you pay in year one is not a guaranteed price for year two.

What we could not verify

NI's own pages do not list a DIAdem price, the free trial length, or a student or academic offer, so we cannot state any of those. Third-party distributor listings do show prices, for example a DIAdem Professional subscription at EUR 2,170 excluding VAT on a Swiss-hosted dataTec page, a DIAdem Advanced subscription at CHF 1,630 excluding VAT, and the same Advanced edition at S$2,182 excluding GST on element14 Singapore (all seen on 31 October 2026). Those pages do not state the subscription term, prices differ by reseller and region, and they will change, so treat them as a rough indication only.

Be cautious with any single per-seat, per-year figure quoted without a source. Ask NI or a distributor for a quote that names the edition, license type, term and currency.

Alternatives if DIAdem is more than you need

DIAdem is a capable, mature tool, and for teams already on NI hardware and TDMS files it is a natural fit. If you mainly need to open files, plot channels and make reports, these options cost less or nothing, with different trade-offs.

NI's TDM Excel add-in is a free download from NI that lets you load and save TDM and TDMS files in Excel. It is useful for quick looks at TDMS data, but it is limited to what Excel can do.

npTDMS is an open-source Python library for reading and writing TDMS files, and asammdf is an open-source Python library (with its own free viewer) for MDF/MF4 files. Both are free and flexible if you are comfortable writing scripts, and neither is a point-and-click analysis environment.

FlexPro, from Weisang, is a commercial data analysis and reporting package with its own licensing. It is a closer comparison to DIAdem than the free tools, so request pricing directly from the vendor.

Vizalyze is a desktop app that runs locally on your computer. It reads TDMS, MDF4 and other test-data formats, and lets you plot, compare runs and build reports without scripting. It has a free tier and a 14-day trial of everything, with no credit card needed. It is a newer and narrower tool than DIAdem, so check that it covers the analyses you rely on before switching.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a DIAdem license cost?

NI does not list DIAdem prices on its product pages. Check NI's current price list or ask a regional distributor for a quote. Distributor listings we saw on 31 October 2026 ranged from roughly CHF 1,630 to EUR 2,170 for annual-style subscriptions to the Advanced and Professional editions, excluding tax, but terms were not stated and prices vary by region.

Is DIAdem a subscription or a perpetual license?

Both. NI's edition page says each edition is available as a subscription or a perpetual license with the same features. Subscriptions must be renewed annually, while perpetual licenses keep working with optional annual software service.

Does DIAdem have floating licenses?

NI describes both floating licenses, shared among multiple users from a central pool, and node-locked licenses assigned to one user. Volume licensing for 5 or more seats is handled through NI sales.

Is there a free version of DIAdem?

NI offers a free trial, but we could not verify its length from NI's pages. NI also offers a free TDM Excel add-in for reading TDMS files, which is not DIAdem.
